David R. Scholl, Ph.D. - PartnerDr. Scholl, 53 yrs, was a Scientific Consultant for Athenian from 1997 through 2000 and has been a partner of the firm from 2000 to the present. He has a total of 27 years of life sciences experience in research and development, executive management, and venture capital. He has worked with Mr. Elderkin for thirteen years, beginning prior to 1997 while Athenian was being formed.

Dr. Scholl has served as President and CEO of Diagnostic Hybrids, Inc. ("DHI") from 1995 to present and, as one of the early technology founders, has been with the company since its founding in 1983 when he joined as Director of Research. The company has emerged as the world's leader in cell-based diagnostics and continues to grow by virtue of its commitment to the development and commercialization of genetically engineered cells for multiple diagnostic applications.

From 1981-1983, he was a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology (Nutley, New Jersey). At Ohio University, he was directly involved in the studies that led to the world's first transgenic animal, and he possesses a strong technical background in gene probe technology. He has co-authored 15 scientific, peer-reviewed articles in clinical and research microbiology journals. He is an inventor of three patents and has two pending patent applications in the field of cell-based medical diagnostics.

Dr. Scholl currently serves on the boards of BioOhio, the state biosciences organization, having recently served as chairman, the Ohio Business Development Corporation (OBDC), and Ohio University's Entrepreneurial Signature Program (ESP) Advisory Council. Previously, he served two terms on the Ohio governor's Technology Action Board. In 2003, Dr. Scholl was the recipient of the Central Ohio Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Life Sciences, and in 2006 was awarded BioOhio's Bioscience Leadership Award.

He received a BA in Biology from Indiana University and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences-Microbiology from Ohio University.

Because of his role as CEO of DHI, Dr. Scholl's role as a Principal of the Fund is part-time, on an as-needed basis, consistent with his responsibilities at DHI. Dr. Scholl has worked, and continues to work, on a part-time basis with Athenian's Funds I, II, III and AVP Ohio.
